PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme

The PMFME Scheme is a centrally sponsored scheme launched under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. It aims to enhance the competitiveness of existing individual micro-enterprises in the unorganized segment of the food processing industry and promote formalization of the sector.

The scheme provides financial, technical, and business support to upgrade existing micro food processing enterprises. It adopts the One District One Product (ODOP) approach to reap the benefit of scale in terms of procurement of inputs, availing common services, and marketing of products.

Objectives of the PMFME Scheme

The scheme is designed to address the challenges faced by the micro-enterprises and to tap the potential of groups and cooperatives.

Enhance Competitiveness

Support for capital investment, technology upgradation, and skill development to improve competitiveness.

Promote Formalization

Encourage micro-enterprises to enter the formal framework through registration, licensing, and compliance.

Support FPOs & SHGs

Increased access to credit, support for common infrastructure, and branding & marketing for groups.

Strengthen Institutions

Capacity building of institutions, and creating a support system for micro food processing units.

Support Available Under the Scheme

Credit-linked capital subsidy at 35% of the eligible project cost with a maximum ceiling of ₹10 lakh per unit.
Seed capital of ₹40,000 per SHG member for working capital and purchase of small tools.
Support for common infrastructure and value chain development for FPOs/SHGs/Cooperatives.
Credit linked grant of 35% for capital investment to FPOs, SHGs and Cooperatives.
Branding and marketing support to develop and market products under a common brand.
Capacity building and training support for technical knowledge and skill upgradation.
Eligibility

Eligibility Criteria for PMFME

The scheme is designed for a wide range of beneficiaries in the unorganized food processing sector.

  • Existing individual micro food processing units and new units.
  • Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Self Help Groups (SHGs), and Producers Cooperatives.
  • Applicant should be above 18 years of age and should possess at least VIII standard pass educational qualification.
  • Only one person from one family would be eligible for obtaining financial assistance.
  • The family would be defined as self, spouse, and children.
  • Priority is given to projects based on One District One Product (ODOP).
